- Has a few different names: Battle of Iron Clads or Monitor vs. Merrimack
- Took place in Virginia on March 8, 1862
- Think of the naval battles we learned about in the past year and a half
- Boats were made of wood which could easily catch fire and sink
- Both Union and Confederate navies decide to make a ship with iron on the top to keep it from sinking
